Steel road plates for temporary excavation coverage

Steel road plates provide temporary coverage over trenches and openings so that an appropriately designed route can remain available. Plate size, thickness, overlap, support conditions and expected loading must all be checked for the specific excavation.

Barrier Shop supplies untreated mild-steel plates in several standard dimensions and thicknesses, with optional lifting holes. Thinner plates may be considered for pedestrians and lighter vehicles, while heavy vehicles and plant require a suitably engineered solution. No generic plate should be assumed suitable from thickness alone.

Safe road-plate planning

  • Obtain competent advice for loading, span and bearing requirements.
  • Provide adequate overlap onto firm, stable support around the excavation.
  • Secure and ramp or recess edges where required to prevent movement and trip hazards.
  • Use suitable lifting equipment and inspect the excavation and plate throughout the work.

Anti-skid treatment, warning signs and traffic-management measures may be required for the application. Contact us about plate dimensions, lifting-hole patterns and delivery planning before ordering large or heavy configurations.
