Speed ramps help reduce approach speeds at entrances, crossings, flow plates and higher-risk areas. The required profile depends on the target speed, vehicle mix, road width and supporting surface. A 5mph ramp creates a stronger intervention than a gentler 10mph system and should be positioned with adequate warning and visibility.

Modular rubber bundles provide a cost-effective way to span different road widths using alternating black and yellow centre sections and tapered ends. Titan steel ramps are intended for high traffic volumes, HGVs and plant where rubber or plastic products may wear, deform or require frequent replacement. Cable-channel models also protect a service route beneath the ramp.

Choosing and setting out a ramp

• Measure the full usable lane width and select the correct number of centre modules and ends.
• Check that the chosen model is suitable for every expected vehicle.
• Use the specified fixings and confirm the asphalt, concrete or paving can support them.
• Install suitable advance warning signs and maintain visibility in both directions.
