Automatic barriers for frequently managed entrances

Automatic barriers are suited to car parks, depots, commercial premises and controlled roads where vehicles need regular authorised access. The barrier mechanism, arm length and control method must be matched to the traffic frequency, available space and required safety devices.

Before selecting a system, establish the clear lane width, expected operations per day, power availability and how users will request access. Controls may include key switches, radio transmitters, intercoms or integration with a wider access-control system. Safety loops, photocells, signage and a suitable approach layout may also be required.

Planning an automated entrance

• Keep the barrier and control cabinet clear of vehicle impact zones.
• Provide suitable foundations, ducting and an electrical supply.
• Allow for emergency release, maintenance access and safe pedestrian routing.
• Confirm the arm length, duty cycle and environmental exposure before ordering.
