Control vans, caravans and other high-sided vehicles without making day-to-day access difficult.
Start with the way the entrance is used
A permanently restricted entrance can use a fixed height barrier. If delivery vehicles, maintenance plant or emergency access must occasionally pass, choose an opening design and establish who will hold the key and secure it after use. A lower gate can also close the road completely outside opening hours.
Information to collect
- Clear road width and the lowest safe restriction height.
- Vehicle types, traffic frequency and required full-height access.
- Available swing space and safe hold-open positions.
- Concrete, asphalt or other fixing surface and known services.
- Required signs, knocking bar, finish and installation date.
Position the barrier far enough before the protected structure for an over-height driver to stop or turn safely. A visible restriction sign and suitable lighting are part of the complete layout.
